Is your device not working as it should?
Our specialist data recovery team can recover faulty or damaged media, so if your storage device is behaving erratically or has been dropped, don't worry, we can still retrieve your data, giving you or your business peace of mind.
Storage devices, particularly , can suffer from many different faults. Often falling into one of two categories, physical and logical.
Whether the fault is physical or logical, we can recover your files for you.
Our experts can recover your files from any device, including:
- Hard Drives (Including: Segate, Maxtor, Western Digital, Samsung, Fujitsu, Hitachi)
- Solid State Drives
- External Hard Drives
- Flash Memory (Including: SD, micro-SD, CompactFlash, etc)
- CCTV
- Mobile Phones (Including: Nokia, HTC, Iphone, LG)
- USB Memory Sticks (Including: Kingston, Verbatim, PNY)
- Games Consoles (Including: PS3, Xbox)
- All Manufacturers covered (E.G Dell, Gateway, Acer)
- All Operating Systems Covered (E.G Windows, Mac OS, Linux)
Recovering Hard Disk Drives
Symptom | Possible Causes | Type of Fault |
Clicking/Ticking/Clunking | PCB failure or Read/Write failure | Physical |
Grinding/Crunching | Read/Write failure or Spindle Damage | Physical |
No sound at all | Spindle Motor failure or PCB failure | Physical |
Burning Smell | PCB failure | Physical |
Beeping/Musical | PCB board failure / Voice coil failure | Physical |
Blue Screen of Death | Bad Sectors | Physical / Logical |
Computer Unresponsive | Bad Sectors | Physical / Logical |
No System Disk Found | Corrupted boot sector | Logical |
Operating System Not Found | Corrupted boot sector | Logical |
Device Unrecognised | On USB devices this could indicate a PCB failure | Physical |
NTLDR Missing | Corrupted boot sector | Logical |
Hearing a ticking or clicking sound coming from your hard drive does not always indicate a physical fault as this kind of sound is common even when a drive is fully working. Should you hear a ticking / clicking sound that is on a reccurring pattern, this could be a failure.
It is quite common for several of these symptoms to happen together, sometimes making it difficult to diagnose a fault over the phone. This is why we diagnose all devices in our lab and provide a detailed report of our findings and proposed recovery solution.
Recovering USB Memory Devices
Symptom | Possible Causes | Type of Fault |
"USB device not recognised" | Crystal Oscillator / Controller | Physical |
"Unknown device" | Crystal Oscillator / Controller | Physical |
No device in Manager | Loose connector / Fuse blown | Physical |
"Device requires formating" | Corrupted FAT | Logical |
Light on, but can't access files | Corrupted FAT | Logical |
Loose connector | Accidental physical damage | Physical |
Broken connector | Accidental physical damage | Physical |
No light and no device in manager | Fuse blown | Physical |
USB memory devices typically suffer from physical faults rather than logical one. The most common faults are with blown fuses or failing cystal oscillators, in more sever cases the controller chip can become faulty.
We can recover files from USB memory sticks in the majority of cases, even if the connector has been broken off.
Recovering Solid State Drives
With no moving parts in a solid state drive, mechanical failure is not possible, but electrical is. As with USB Memory sticks, controller failure can occur. However the most likely failures are caused by software corruption. For example corrupted file tables or accidental deletion.
Due to the complex nature of solid state drives, it is also possible, in high use situations, for the memory to become degraded.
Where failure is caused by any of these circumstances, we can still recover your files.
Recovering Flash Memory Devices
Flash memory typically suffers from the same problems as USB memory sticks, however, because flash cards spend most of their time inside another device, such as a camera, they are unlikely to suffer any breakages. It is much more common for corruption to oocur on these devices.
Recoving Flash memory is usually possible, even if physical damage has occured.
Recovering CCTV (Closed Circuit TV) Recording Devices
Symptom | Possible Causes | Type of Fault |
"USB device not recognised" | Crystal Oscillator / Controller | Physical |
"Unknown device" | Crystal Oscillator / Controller | Physical |
No device in Manager | Loose connector / Fuse blown | Physical |
"Device requires formating" | Corrupted FAT | Logical |
Light on, but can't access files | Corrupted FAT | Logical |
Loose connector | Accidental physical damage | Physical |
Broken connector | Accidental physical damage | Physical |
No light and no device in manager | Fuse blown | Physical |
CCTV recording devices, typically have failures and symptoms consistent with both Hard Drives and SSD, depending on the storage media employed by the device. The only complication with CCTV is where non-standard recording formats are used or non-standard operating/file systems.
Recovering Mobile Phones
Mobile phones are, by design, quite robust. But that's not to say that they don't suffer any faults. Most are caused by wear and tear or accidental damage.
Whatever the cause, we can recover data from most mobile phones, including smart phones such as Blackberry, Windows/Android based phones and iPhone.
Recovering Games Consoles
Symptom | Possible Causes | Type of Fault |
"USB device not recognised" | Crystal Oscillator / Controller | Physical |
"Unknown device" | Crystal Oscillator / Controller | Physical |
No device in Manager | Loose connector / Fuse blown | Physical |
"Device requires formating" | Corrupted FAT | Logical |
Light on, but can't access files | Corrupted FAT | Logical |
Loose connector | Accidental physical damage | Physical |
Broken connector | Accidental physical damage | Physical |
No light and no device in manager | Fuse blown | Physical |
We often forget that modern games consoles contain hard drives to store your game data. As such, they can suffer similar faults as hard drives.
Recovery options to suite you
We offer three recovery levels;- Budget (21 day turn around)*
- Express (14 day turn around)*
- Priority (5 day turn around)*
- Emergency (48 hour turn around)*
In addition, you have the option to select different return media. So if you want to have your data returned on a new external hard drive, let us know and we will recover your files to it.
* The turn arounds can only be gauranteed for logical recoveries. If your recovery is physical, it may take longer depending on the severity and availability of parts.Confidential and reliable recovery from the data experts.
Whether your files are of sentimental value or your business relies upon them, you can be confident that your files are safe with us. Our recovery process ensures that when we are working with your data, we are working from a copy, not the original. This maximises the quality and quantity of data that we can return to you.
Once we have recovered your data and you are satisfied with what we have obtained, we will store your data securely for a maximum of 14 days. After which time the copy of your data that we hold will be erased using CESG compliant methods.
